Chapter 1: About Me

In this chapter we are going to learn :

(Di materi ini kita akan mempelajari : )

  • How to greet someone
  • How to say good bye
  • How to introduce yourself
  • How to ask other identities
  • How to introduce someone else
  • Hobbies
  • Pronouns
  • Simple Present Tense
  • Descriptive text

Lets start! (mari mulai!)

Greetings

In this section we are going to learn about greetings.

(Pada bagian ini kita akan mempelajari tentang sapaan)

Here is the way to greet someone based on the time:

(Berikut ini adalah cara untuk menyapa seseorang berdasarkan waktu)

  • Good morning! (Selamat pagi!)
  • Good afternoon! (Selamat siang / sore!)
  • Good evening! (Selamat malam!)
  • Good night! (Selamat tidur!)

Example (Contoh):

Example 1:

Andi : “Good morning, Dad!” (Selamat pagi, Ayah!)

Dad : “Good morning. How are you?” (Selamat pagi, bagaimana kabarmu?)

Example 2:

Mom : “Good afternoon, Siti. How are you?” (Selamat sore, Siti. Bagaimana kabarmu?)

Siti : “Good afternoon, Mom. I’m fine. Thanks.” (Selamat sore, Bu. Saya baik baik saja. Terima kasih)

Based on the example above, we know that to reply someone greeting simply just use the same greeting expression.

(Berdasarkan contoh diatas, kita tahu bahwa untuk membalas sapaan seseorang kita dapat gunakan kata sapaan yang sama).

When someone greet “Good morning”, we reply “Good morning”.

(Ketika seseorang menyapa dengan “Selamat pagi”, kita balas “Selamat pagi”).

When someone greet “Good evening”, we reply “Good evening”.

(Ketika seseorang menyapa dengan “Selamat sore”, kita balas “Selamat sore”).

When someone greet us and ask about our condition, we can reply based on our condition at moment.

(Ketika seseorang menyapa kita dan menanyakan keadaan kita, kita dapat membalas dengan kondisi kita saat itu)

When we are on healthy condition we can reply :

(Ketika kita sedang dalam keadaan sehat, kita dapat menjawab: )

  • I am fine thank you!
  • I am great!
  • Great!
  • I am good!

When we are on bad condition we can reply:

(Ketika kita sedang dalam keadaan kurang baik, kita dapat menjawab: )

  • Not so good
  • I am not good

So please change depend on your situation ok?

(Jadi tolong sesuaikan dengan kondisi kalian saat itu ya?)

How to Say Good Bye

We are going to learn how to say goodbye to someone else.

(Untuk materi berikutnya, kita akan mempelajari tentang bagaimana mengucapkan sampai jumpa kepada orang lain).

Here are some expression that we can use to say goodbye :

(Berikut beberapa ungkapan yang dapat kita gunakan untuk mengucapkan sampai jumpa).

  • Goodbye! (Sampai jumpa!)
  • See you later! (Sampai jumpa lagi!)
  • See you! (Sampai jumpa!)
  • Bye! (Dadah!)
  • See you soon! (Sampai jumpa lagi!)

Example (Contohnya):

Example 1:

Dodo : “See you later!” (Sampai berjumpa lagi!)

Didi : “See you. Take care!” (Sampai jumpa. Hati hati dijalan!)

Example 2:

Ubed : “Goodbye, Mom.” (Sampai jumpa, Bu)

Mom : “Bye, Ubed. Take care. See you later.” (Dadah, Ubed. Hati hati. Sampai jumpa lagi)

For say goodbye, it is not different with say greetings. We can reply with the same expression.

(Untuk mengucapkan sampai jumpa, tidak berbeda dengan mengucapkan kalimat sapaan. Kita bisa gunakan ungkapan yang sama.)

How to Introduce Yourself

We are going to learn about how to introduce ourselves.

(Pada bagian ini kita akan mempelajari cara untuk memperkenalkan diri kita sendiri)

Several things that we can share (beberapa hal yang dapat kita bagikan):

  • Name (Nama)
  • Place of Origin (Asal daerah)
  • Home address (Alamat)

  • Place of Origin = Where are you from?
  • Home address = Where do you live?
  • Age How old are you?
  • Hobby = What is your hobby?
  • Siblings = How many siblings do you have?

How to Introduce Someone Else

We are going to learn about how to introduce someone else.

(Pada bagian ini kita akan mempelajari cara untuk memperkenalkan orang lain)

Same like previous section, there are some of things that we can tell:

(Sama seperti pada bagian sebelumnya, ada beberapa hal yang dapat kita bagikan: )

  • Name = This is Salsa.
  • Place of Origin = She’s from Jakarta.
  • Home address = She live at Flamboyan No 22.
  • Age She’s 15 years old.
  • Hobby = She like to play piano.
  • Siblings = She has 2 sisters.

Let say you introduce Salsa to your friend Andre, so in full sentences will be like this:

(Misalkan kamu akan memperkenalkan Salsa ke temanmu Andre, jadi kalau kita buat ke dalam kalimat akan seperti ini )

Hi Andre, this is Salsa. She is from Jakarta and live at Flamboyan No 22 now. She is 15 years old and really like piano. She lives with her parents and has 2 sisters.

Hobbies

When talk about hobbies, we can share information like the kind of the hobby itself, frequency and tools needed.

(Ketika membicarakan hobi, kita dapat membagikan informasi mulai dari jenis hobi itu sendiri, seberapa sering dan alat yang digunakan)

Of course different hobby has different tools needed.

(Tentu saja beda hobi beda juga alat yang digunakan)

For example:

  • Fishing = Fishing rod, a bucket, and a fishing net.
  • Reading book = Of course a book.
  • Mobile gaming = Smartphone and internet connection.
  • Badminton = Racket and shuttlecock.

In sentence example:

Andre likes mobile gaming. He plays every weekend. He needs a smartphone and internet connection for mobile gaming.

Pronouns

There are several types of pronouns: subjective, objective, possessive adjectives, and possessive pronouns.

(Ada beberapa tipe dari pronouns, yaitu: subjective, objective, possessive adjectives, dan possessive pronouns.)

Please, look into the table below:

(Perhatikan tabel dibawah ini: )

pronouns

You can try to remember it coloumn by coloumn, it’s easier to remember.

(Kalian dapat mencoba untuk menghapal per kolom, dari kiri ke kanan, biar lebih mudah untuk diingat.)

Let’s learn it one by one!

(Mari kita mulai pelajari satu per satu!)

Subjective Pronouns

Subjective pronouns are the subjects of a sentence.

(Subjective pronouns adalah subjek dari sebuah kalimat.)

REMEMBER, subject always in front and before verb or to be!

(Ingat, subjek selalu berada di depan dan sebelum verb atau to be!)

Example (Contoh) :

  • I have three dogs.
  • You like to have many pen pals.
  • He studies in an elementary school.

Objective pronouns

Objective pronouns are the objects of a sentence.

(Objective pronouns adalah objek dari sebuah kalimat.)

REMEMBER, object always after verb or to be!

(Ingat, objek selalu berada setelah verb atau to be!)

Example (Contoh) :

  • I know Caroline. She introduced me to you via e-mail.
  • My brother is an elementary school student. Sometimes I accompany him to go to school.
  • The fur of the cat is soft. We like to stroke it.

Possessive adjectives

Possessive adjectives are words that indicate possession.

(Possessive adjectives adalah kata yang menunjukan kepemilikan.)

Possessive adjectives are used with nouns.

(Possessive adjectives selalu menggunakan nouns.)

Example (Contoh) :

  • I have a pen pal. My pen pal is very kind.
  • You have three dogs. Your dogs need a lot of attention.

Possessive pronouns

Possessive pronouns also show possession but possessive pronouns are not followed by nouns.

(Possessive pronouns juga menunjukan kepemilikan namun tidak diikuti oleh nouns.)

Example (Contoh) :

  • This is my book. This book is mine.
  • These are your dog. These dogs are yours.
  • His school is far from here. His is far.

Differences between Possessive Adjective and Possessive Pronouns

In order to determine when use possessive adjectives or possessive pronouns, we can look into the nouns itself.

(Untuk menentukan kapan menggunakan possessive adjective atau possessive pronouns, kita dapat melihat ke nouns itu sendiri.)

Remember this!

(Ingat ini!)

If nouns in front before the possessive : use possessive pronouns!

(Jika noun berada di depan sebelum kepemilikan : gunakan possessive pronouns!)

If nouns in behind after the possessive: use possessive adjectives!

(Jika noun di belakang setelah kepemilikan : gunakan possessive adjectives!)

Now I will try to explain it, look carefully into the word “book”.

(Sekarang Admin akan mencoba jelaskan, perhatikan baik-baik kata “buku”.)

This book is mine.

This is my book.

First sentence the book in front, so we use “mine”.

(Kalimat pertama buku berada di depan, jadi kita gunakan “mine”.)

Second sentence the book in behind, so we use “my”.

(Kalimat kedua buku berada di belakang, jadi kita gunakan “my”.)

Easy right?

(Mudah bukan?)
